Great Hosts, Great Location
This B&B was simply amazing! Alex and Vivien were incredibly kind and helpful, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Our room was luxurious and spotless, with every comfort you could wish for. The breakfast was generous and absolutely delicious—the perfect fuel for the day’s hike along another stage of the Rob Roy Way. Overall, an outstanding experience in the heart of the Highlands. When we return to Scotland, we’ll definitely be staying here again!

Beautiful BnB
This BnB is a real gem in the Scottish countryside! The rooms are beautifully decorated with some thoughtful local touches included – whisky, tablet, shortbread, tea, coffee, milk etc. The beds were comfy and cosy too. Having your own entrance to come and go was very helpful and the courtyard area was great to sit and enjoy the views with a cup of tea. The breakfast was delicious and nothing felt like too much trouble during our stay. Alex and Vivien were friendly hosts who offered plenty of ideas for things to do during the days and where to go for a meal in the evenings – all of which we thoroughly enjoyed. The BnB is located on the edge of Loch Tay and you can walk to the edge of the loch and admire the stunning view in just a matter of minutes. It is also a stones throw from the Falls of Acharn which is worth a visit. We will be back to enjoy more that this BnB and the surrounding area has to offer.

Luxury and hospitality on the banks of Loch Tay. Simply brilliant.
Absolutely brilliant. The Old Mill is beautiful. You will be very well looked after. Communication was quick, clear and always welcoming. The accommodation is to a very high standard, with a welcome whisky and shortbread. Alex made a dinner reservation for us, taxiing us to and from Kenmore. Breakfast was a feast. We will be back (more than once!).

A Beautiful stay
We booked this b&b as we were spending the evening at Taymouth Marina on Valentine’s day. The Old Mill is a beautiful building which is ran by two very friendly sisters, who go well out of there way to ensure you have a fabulous stay. We got there around 5.20pm and our spa was booked from 5.30pm they offered to drop us to the spa and pick us up after which was so kind!

The room was very spacious, with his and hers sinks in the ensuite. A very comfy bed, towels and robes provided was a lovely touch. They also provided us with tablet, shortbread and some whiskey, all which was locally sourced.

When we woke up in the morning, we thought it was raining until we opened the door to a patio area which backed onto a stream, it was truly beautiful. We made a coffee and stood outside watching the red squirrels and listening to the stream all before heading up for a full Scottish breakfast. Which was without doubt one of the nicest breakfasts we’ve ever had. There was so much choice on the table from croissants to toast, yoghurts and cereal and a menu which you can choose from variety of options.

I would highly recommend staying here and we will definitely be returning in the future. Thanks again it was fabulous!

You must stay here
My adult daughter and I stayed with Alex and Vivien for a night on our recent walk along the Rob Roy Way.
To say they went above and beyond would be an understatement.
Alex drove 20 minutes AND waited one hour to pick us up at the track head.
We were taken to their wonderful home and shown to our twin share room which was not only well presented (dram of whiskey included) but had a generous ensuite with bath tub!
After ablutions, Alex drove us to the local restaurant, which she arranged the booking, and picked us up afterwards.
Next morning we experienced a sensational breakfast, both full Scottish for myself, and a special order for my daughter.
When set for the days next leg of the walk Alex drove us back to the track head.
I cannot speak highly enough of both Alex and Vivian’s hospitality and professionalism. This is not hyperbole..”the best guesthouse I have stayed in in my 58 years”
Thank you so much Alex and Vivien

Rob Roy Way Hike
What a hidden gem, this is by far one of the nicest places I have stayed, the welcome we received was so delightful from the owners, the little touches of a small decanter to sample a dram or the local shortbread to try was a nice touch, with comfy beds and plush bedding with luxurious towels was so good, the facilities of the large en-suite was 5* everything within our room was excellent, the breakfast we recieved next morning was of a very high standard with multiple choices to suit everyone, the owners were very helpful to ensure your stay was enjoyable, I can not recommend this place enough, I will certainly be coming back to sample the great hospitality, thank you ladies for a wonderful stay.

Wonderful stay!
A wee taste of paradise!
We stayed here one night whilst walking The Rob Roy Way. We had just walked 17 miles that day so we were looking forward to a comfy place for the night and we were not disappointed!
Alex and Vivien were so welcoming and hospitable hosts. They have a stunning home set in such beautiful surroundings. Our room was spacious, immaculate with a comfy bed. The bathroom was huge with a bath as well. Lots of personal touches such as the wee dram of Aberlour and the locally made tablet and shortbread were much appreciated.
Nothing was too much trouble and thank you to Alex for taking us to The Ferrymen’s Inn for our tea and also picking us up- so generous!
Breakfast was amazing -freshly prepared and so much choice.
Thank you for a wonderful stay Alex and Vivien and for restoring our faith in Scottish hospitality!

An experience not to be missed
Step into paradise after a long days walk. The perfect place to take off the boots and just be enveloped in pure luxury. Everything has been thought through to to last detail … 5 Stars in every aspect.
Warm, welcoming hosts. Nothing too much trouble, excellent room and facilities, wonderful little luxuries to go with that first cup of tea/coffee when those boots come off.
Great recommendations for eating out locally and gratis taxi ….. superb!
Fantastic breakfast to send you on the way for another days walk….. didn’t want to leave!
It was by far the best accommodation we experienced whilst walking the Rob Roy Way
You have set the bar so high, it is doubtful if very few other establishments can ever come close to your standards.
Thank you Alex and Vivien for a wonderful and very memorable stay.
Best wishes for your continuing success.

What an absolute delight it was to stay at your hidden gem accommodation, thank you for your great hospitality and the welcoming we received on arrival, your attention to detail was second to none, the room was 5* and the welcoming touches of a dram and shortbread from local sources was excellent, we’ve told everyone we have spoken to along the RRW about the Old Mill at Acharn how good everything was from your hospitality, the cleanliness of the room to your delightfully plentiful breakfast, I’m sure we will return again sometime in the future.
Once again thank you for a great stay.

Relaxing in Peaceful Acharn
After a 15 mile trek a very warm welcome from Alex and Vivien who were the most delightful hosts. The accommodation is luxurious with a private door and an added bonus of welcome shortbread and whisky! The Old Mill is set within stunning scenery and only a short walk to the amazing Falls of Acharn. A complimentary drive to the local restaurant and to Aberfeldy when my bus was late really emphasised how wonderful Alex and Vivien were as hosts. Would highly recommend a stay.

The Old Mill B&B is a delight. Our room was lovely. Very clean and comfortable with a door out to garden space. Beautiful en-suite with a great shower and his and her sinks. Lots of lovely touches including home made tablet and a wee nip of whisky. Alex and Vivien are great hosts. Very welcoming and drove us into Kenmore for our evening meal which was much appreciated. An excellent breakfast finished off what was a great night’s stay. We will return.

We did indeed enjoy the rest of our Rob Roy way, the first half from Pitlochry easily being the best part and The Old Mill easily being the best place we stayed on the whole route!
Thank you for your wonderful hospitality and excellent breakfasts, you’ve made the Old Mill a truly fabulous place to stay. The lift to and from the local restaurant on the evening was very much appreciated.

My husband, 2 dogs and I had a fantastic experience at this cool and beautiful B&B. Alex and Vivien who own it were very welcoming, extremely hospitable and just generally lovely people.
The ground level room was spacious, spotless and a perfect set up for the dogs (we just opened the patio door and the dogs had access to an enclosed outdoor area).
To top it off breakfast was outstanding too. The food was lovely and what a spread Alex and Vivien put on! Can’t recommend this place enough and this would definitely be our choice of stay should we return to Loch Tay.

We stayed one night in The Old Mill.
The hosts, Alex and Vivien, are really fine ladies. They are sincerely interested in their guests and it is nice talking with them. We mentioned to go out eating and they immediately offered to taxi us! Great… although we drove ourselves.
The house is refurbished at a very high standard and is done very tasteful.
The breakfast was awesome.
Acharn is a very small village but this b&b is a little heaven in Acharn.”

Wow! What a fantastic mini-break

I treated my partner to a birthday weekend away – he’s not big into romantic candlelit dinners or spa breaks, but he does enjoy the outdoors, walking and photography, and I like a bit of luxury.

The Old Mill in Acharn was a perfect base for us – a beautiful old listed building in a stunning location; incredible scenery with many photo opportunities, great walking countryside and plenty to do in the vicinity.
Our hosts at the Old Mill were charming, and our room like a little oasis – tastefully decorated and finished with guest comfort in mind (I especially loved the bathroom with its amazing shower and under-floor heating – what a treat!) Thoughtful finishing touches and little samples of local produce added to the whole experience and provided an extra touch of class.
A fantastic breakfast really set us up for the day – you couldn’t ask for anything more…
We would whole-heartedly recommend it and will definitely return.

Louise, Herts – June 2017

We have stayed several times at The Old Mill, Acharn and it is now our favourite place in the world to visit!

The accommodation is far superior to any hotel we have stayed in, as every detail is covered from the delicious local shortbread, to plentiful soft towels, comfortable beds and toastie toes in the bathroom from the underfloor heating. Nothing is seemed to be too much trouble for Vivien and Alex, the owners, who not only provided us with delicious filling breakfasts which kept us going until dinner, but as they have visited every eatery and place of interest for miles, they were amazing “trip advisors”.

The local and surrounding areas have a wealth of things to see and do, for people of all ages and abilities. So far we have climbed Ben Lawers, the Monroe across the loch, walked up the hill behind the Old Mill to the breathtaking Acharn waterfalls and Hermit’s cave and visited the local stone circles – the walking choices are infinite. We have taken a boat out on Loch Tay, visited the local Crannog, gone on a Highland Safari, ridden horses through the Tay forest, done white water rafting in Aberfeldy, visited Blair Atholl castle and driven further afield to Inverness and seen the battlefield of Culloden and Loch Ness. Even after all this, there is still so much more for us to do and at least we know when we tell our teenage daughters we’re going back to Acharn, they will literally shriek with delight – at home it’s hard to get them out of bed!! They like nothing more than walking down to the Loch and skimming stones and swinging on the rope swing. Sometimes the simple things in life are the best!

We couldn’t recommend it more highly for a family holiday or short break, we just want to keep going back – and we will!

Lisa and family – Somerset – August 2017

The Old Mill in Acharn proved to be a great place for us to stay for our girls’ weekend reunion. The rooms were gorgeous and the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, to ease our hangovers, were to die for!

From drinking prosecco at the Hotbox sauna at the Taymouth Marina, overlooking stunning Loch Tay (after plunging into the loch itself!) to having afternoon tea at the beautiful Gleneagles Hotel, we’ll certainly be back again….if they will have us!
